What's Going on with School Bussing? by Analeah Green
A lot of students depend on school bussing for their transportation to and from school, so what does it mean for the bussing and for the students when something interferes with this?
As many know, the school's main construction on the entrance of the high school began around December. As the construction began in the front main portion of the school, the drop off and pick up system for buses and parents had to be altered.
As the solution to parent and student pickup and drop was much easier to fix, simply moving it to the middle school area of the parking lot, the solution to bussing was a bit more complex. The solution for bussing, after much consideration, was decided to be moved to the street in front of the school. As this fixed the problem they had for where the buses would go, this posed a new problem in the road: passing cars had to come to a near complete stop when the buses waited for departure.
Because the buses took up so much space on the road and required the rest of the traffic to stop, many parents and students had started to have enough during pick up times. It's not identified exactly how many vehicles have violated the rule of stopping for the buses, but we know that at least one vehicle has violated this rule on several occasions. Because this poses a risk to students, a change was needed.
Due to these violations, the school has decided to move the student pick up for bussing from 3:15 to 3:05. This would give the buses 10 minutes to get the kids they need to take and depart from the school before general student release.
So far it's been a rocky start to this new system though. It seems that in the first couple days this system was put into place, even though the bus kids got released from school early and the buses arrived early as well, departure time was still the same as it had been. Later on it was then not the issue of the buses leaving at the wrong time, but the students being released at the wrong time due to the broken clock system in the school. Though It's unknown how smoothly this system will continue to run, efforts are being made to fix these problems and keep transportation running smoothly.
