Varsity Bowling by Charles DeYoung
This year for Varsity Bowling there was a Girls and Boys team. There were not enough players for a JV and no coach, so there were 9 boys and 6 girls on Varsity.
For the Boys, the star player was Ryan Philips. He had a high score of 214 and a low of 116, which is one of the best this season. Ryan is also a 2 hander bowler, which for high school isn't normal, but for pros is. Everyone else on the team was a single-hand bowler. The team had some bowlers try two-handed at practice but it didn't turn out well. For Ryan, he started Bowling his junior season and wasn't good, but then he practiced over the summer and when the season started, it showed that he had worked his tail off.
The Boy's Bowling team went 1-11, and the Girl’s team went 6-6. Some players like Noah Conklin and Liam Wester, started their first season this year and by the end improved a lot and will continue to thrive on Varsity next year. Charles DeYoung came out for the season and wasn't doing too hot. In the first game he played he shot a 38/300 and because of that, the coach was laughing at him and didn’t start him for a while. He did improve, but once the season was coming to a close, he shot a 120. Even though the season ended, he will still practice over the summer months and try to start on Varsity next year.
For the girl's side of bowling, Sophia DeGraaf was one of the best girls and was the only one on the team that made State. Ryan, Bones, Mars, Sophia, and Liam went to Regionals, and yet, only Sophia made States. Ryan was close, but only missed a few spares; if not, he would have been at State. The girls had a better season than the boys. For the girl's team, they added two Freshmen and had four Seniors. For the boys, it was one Senior, five Juniors, one Sophomore, and two Freshmen. Overall, everyone who joined and stayed with the bowling team enjoyed the whole season and felt like they all made improvements.
