2024 Interact Club Dominican Republic Trip by Charlotte Gardner
This past week the Interact Club was able to go on their rescheduled trip to the Dominican Republic. They went down to the Dominican Republic and helped with construction and painting at a school as well as going on a few adventures.
The club started off the trip on Friday the 26th and arrived in the Dominican Republic safe and sound, getting to work right away. At the school they started with painting; the school was three stories and there were many parts that had not been painted in years and needed to be touched up. The other main job that the club helped with was helping construct an extension to the school, which will be a new classroom in the end. They were able to help with the formation, movement, and laying of concrete. From the beginning to the end, a lot was done: the majority of the cement was laid and most of the school was painted.
Not only did they help out with construction and painting at the school, the travelerswere able to teach the kids some English. The grades ranged from Pre-K to 7th graders. The Interact Club members taught them things such as colors, numbers, emotions, etc. They were able to teach them through worksheets, activities, and games. The kids caught on well and learned a lot.
Lastly, they were able to go on a few adventures. On Sunday, they attended church at Batey 106 which was different from services here in America. Since they were at the Batey they were able to hang out with the kids and pass out food and water. They were also able to go to the beach and see the blue water and soak up the sun. The last 2 days were spent at Casa De Campo where they were able to swim at the pools, go to the beach, and hang out at the houses.
Overall, this was a successful trip and there were lots of accomplishments made. Not only was there lots of work done, but there were new relationships made and new things learned, things that will be taken with people for life. If you see a traveler in the hallway, ask them about their trip and maybe you will want to join the Interact Club and get to experience it yourself!
