Upcoming DR Trip by Charlotte Gardner
In 2 weeks members of the Interact Club are traveling to the Dominican Republic to work on a service project. The Interact Club takes this trip every other year and uses the year before to prepare in all different ways. The group of students that are going this year are working at an elementary school by helping by laying and digging the foundation for a new Pre-K classroom, as well as painting the building. Not only is the group helping with the new building, but they are also helping the kids learn English. They will teach them through lessons about colors, animals, and numbers.
In past years when the students go down, they visit Batey 106 and help with things around the Batey as well as teaching the kids lessons. Going to the elementary school is going to be a new experience for everyone. On the trip, students get to engage in a lot of new experiences, get the opportunity to go to a Dominican church, visit the beach, and see how the different culture works.
Junior, Mazie Robison says, “I am very excited to go this year. I got the opportunity to go my Freshman year. I learned so many new things and will forever be grateful for the trip. Not only did I get to interact with the kids and make new friends, but I also made new connections with the people from my school. I got closer with the seniors as well as the other grades, I am looking forward to all of the relationships I will build this year and all the new experiences!”
They were planning on leaving this Saturday but due to the big storm that is supposed to be coming our way they had to reschedule. Safe travels to them and good luck!
