Ariyanna McDonald by Abby Neuens
Ariyanna McDonald, one of the new ninth grade students is from West Ottawa, just recently joined Saugatuck before Thanksgiving Break. In the short amount of time she’s been here so far, she said, “Most of the people here [are] very kind,” and she’s feeling like everyone is helping her fit in very nicely.
Some fun facts about Ariyanna are that she loves to skateboard and play video games, with her favorite game being Call of Duty. She also enjoys spending some good quality time with her sister.
When asked where she would travel if there was nothing stopping her, she said Mexico, a great choice. She enjoys watching volleyball and basketball and will possibly join one of the teams next year. Ariyanna has only been in our school for around a week, but when asked who her favorite teacher is so far, she answered that it was Mr. Holtz. Along with that, her favorite class is choir, which she’s been taking for around seven years already before joining the Saugatuck school system.
One major change between West Ottawa and Saugatuck is the 8:30 start time, as her last school required students to be in their seats at 7:30 in the morning, so our morning routine is a welcome change in her eyes. Some events coming up that she’s excited for are our athletic events and another change of classes next trimester. She's very anxious to start English again after taking a trimester or two off, and she’s also looking forward to continuing choir throughout high school. She described herself as “very shy when you first meet [her], but fun once you know [her] better.” She said that the warm personalities of everyone at the school has made the biggest impression on her and helped her feel comfortable at Saugatuck. She seems to be fitting in perfectly and making a great impact for our school, so be sure to keep up the kindness that she’s been shown so far.
