This Track Seasons Hopes by Sawyer Monroe
As spring sports are upon us, it’s time to take a look at what the hopes are for this season for the boys varsity track team. This team has faced great success, but are they planning on yet another great season?
Let's take a look at what Head Coach of Saugatuck's boys track team, Rick Bauer, has to say about his hopes for this track season. He said, “I hope people just have fun and learn to work hard; if we learn to work hard and have fun, that will set us up for success in the coming years.” If this doesn’t get some of those track athletes fired up for this track season or the next upcoming seasons, I do not know what will.
Saugatuck’s All Region Athletes returning from last year is cause for excitement as well To start off, sophomore Brennan Nor, who last year was all region as a freshman placing 5th in the 1 mile race. Next up, another sophomore, Sammy Gamboa, placed 6th in the 2 mile last year at Regionals as a freshman. The 4x100 meter relay team of Jaxon Green, Nick Petrick, Cass Stanberry, and William Doucette, placed 6th at Regionals. However, these are only the relay teams and individual people that placed in the top 8 at regionals. There were some seniors too, but they moved on and are no longer at Saugatuck High School.
Now, many may think having that many kids at Regionals is not going to be enough to do anything major, like win a Regional or State title, but there are more people that have been training and did not make it to regionals last year that will most likely make it this year and maybe even place. Also, there will be incoming freshmen with talent that has been proved in middle school that they are very promising for this track season. Lastly, there were many kids on the high school track team who came real close to being all region, so there's no reason Saugatuck should not be one of the top prospects in this region for track.
