Dominic Lester by Logan Luft
At the beginning of the 2023-2024 Saugatuck High school / middle school year, many familiar faces can be seen. Whether it's your friends, classmates, teachers, or people you just know, some others may stick out. Some of these new students you may already know, such as kids in your grade; however, we do not exactly look at the younger kids, specifically middle schoolers. One example of this is Dominic Lester.
Dominic Lester, a 12 year old boy, decided to enroll in the Saugatuck educational program after being homeschooled for many years since Covid. While being homeschooled, he noticed that he couldn’t interact with many kids in his area, as well as make many friends due to being homeschooled. After this, he and his parents made the special decision to enroll him into Saugatuck.
After being in the school for a few weeks, he is beginning to like being in a public school more than being homeschooled by himself. One example of this is meeting his favorite teacher so far, Mrs. Hankins. He says, “Mrs. Hankin’s is the nicest teacher towards me and makes funny jokes with the class.” Another example of this can be shown by his favorite class that he enjoys very much, band class. He likes to be included with many subjects and the band is a wonderful one to be part of. Dominic plays the trombone for the band, which is an essential part.
Dominic has many hobbies he enjoys to do while at home. He likes to partake in chess often; he says it's relaxing and enjoyable. He also enjoys playing video games during his free time, although he mentions that he doesn’t play any specific games. He likes to read and watch movies, and one of his favorite books is Book of 5 Rings, which is an intriguing sword fighting book.
When it comes to physical activity, he plans on joining the boys basketball team for not only improving himself physically ,but to also improve his mentality. These two things are very important and useful to have later in life.
To sum everything up, Dominic Lester, or as many call him Lester, moved to this school to acquire new knowledge and to improve himself in many ways. Welcome to Saugatuck, Dominic!
