Hartford Meet Results by Sawyer Monroe
This past Saturday, Saugatuck's track athletes had a track meet at Hartford High School, but not just any meet, this meet was only for Sophomores and Freshman that ran track. This meet was a fairly large one with plenty of great individual athletes and teams. Saugatuck boys team took a solid third place finish out of thirteen teams there, those being Bangor, Berrien Springs, Bloomingdale, Casspolis Ross Beatty, Comstock, Constantine, Decatur, Delton-Kellogg, Hartford, Marcellus, Niles Brandywine, and Watervliet. In this specific meet, they scored ten points for first, eight points for second, six for third, four for fourth, two for fifth, and one point for sixth place.
In track, the goal is to get the most points possible. Also, the top three in each event got medals and fourth through sixth got ribbons. To kick things off, the 4x800 hundred meter relay got second place, this team consisted of Sawyer Monroe, Sammy Gamboa, Brennan Nor, and the person who finished the event, Marcus Silva. Next, we have Peter Mitchell who tried long jump for the first time, and also only did one of the five jumps that he was allowed to do, but still got third place. Peter also got fifth in the 400 meter dash. Next, Jonathon Gamez, who got fourth in pole vault, and also got two other fourth place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. After that, they had a 4x100 meter relay that consisted of Mason Leslie, Max Page, Peter Mitchell, and Nik Petrik placed fourth.
Then in the mile, they had their only champion of the day. Marcus Silva get first in the one mile, breaking five minutes for the first time officially. Then the nearly same 4x100 meter relay team came out in the 4x200 meter relay only subbing out Nik Petrik with Jonathon Gamez; they got fourth place. Then they had the two mile run where Sammy Gamboa got fourth and Grant Rehkopf got second. And in the final event of the day, a 4x400 meter relay went out and won their heat (the group of racers you will race with, based on your previous times), but in another heat a team ran a time a second faster than their time so overall they got second place.
