Making the Switch to Xbox by Erica Lloyd
Ever since the release of the first Xbox in 2001, Microsoft has been battling for fan’s affections against other top runners in the world of gaming consoles. Other companies like Playstation and Nintendo constantly keep Xbox on their toes with new and exclusive content. Top and trending games like God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and The Last of Us are all Playstation exclusives, meaning they are currently not available to play on other consoles. This system of exclusive content often creates lifelong consumers who would be very hesitant to switch to a different platform; however, some do make the switch.
Switching consoles is often very difficult. Not being able to bring over your old games and save files forces the consumer to restart not only their library of games, but play hours and achievements as well. However, sometimes the pros outweigh the cons. Playstation's lack of compatibility with previous systems is highly discouraging to the consumer. When buying a new Playstation you can no longer play the games you bought on your older system. This leaves the consumer with a similar feeling of switching consoles completely. Therefore, many decide to make the switch to Xbox with the Series X and S.
Xbox consoles encourage the user to play their old games, even as far back as the first generation of systems. This allows even new consumers to the Xbox brand to experience classic Xbox games all with one console. With this, even when buying a new console the consumer has all their previous games, achievements, and game hours all at their fingertips. Not to mention, new consumers can have practically an unlimited amount of games to play and try with Xbox Game Pass. This subscription offers a multitude of games that can either be downloaded to the system or played with Cloud gaming. If this subscription happens to run out before you are able to finish your playthrough, all your saves will be there whenever you renew your subscription or purchase the game.
Regardless of these pros, the debate of Xbox and Playstation will always be a discussion in the gaming community; however, the consumer should always make their own educated decision that will work best for their preferences.
