Erin Moerler by Julia Lowery
Senior year can be one of the most challenging years of high school; however, it can also be the most enjoyable. Whether it's FAFSA applications, looming deadlines, or essays from anywhere to scholarships or college applications, seniors can have a lot resting on their shoulders. No matter what, once graduation hits, the work will all be worth it. With so many different pathways and opportunities lying ahead, the class of 2023 has exciting years ahead of them. To get a glimpse as to what the future might hold, Erin Moerler answers questions about her senior year: What it has looked like and her plans for her next step.
Erin Moerler has accomplished a lot in just a short four years. Playing volleyball, basketball, and soccer, all at the varsity level. With all these sports, one would think she would have a favorite, but this is not the case for Erin. When asked what her favorite sport is, she replied with: “I get this question a lot: however, I don't know that I can answer with a simple sport. I love all three of the sports I play because they all have different rules and team dynamics. I don't think I love one more than the other because they all fulfill different aspects of my life and personality.”
While also being a leader out on the field, Erin is a leader in school and with her classmates. When she’s not out on the field or court, you can find her up in the stands cheering or hanging out with her fellow classmates. This is actually one of her favorite things about being a senior: getting closer with her class in and outside of school. “My favorite part so far has been the continued relationships I have been able to have with everyone throughout the school year. Another thing I have enjoyed is how close our grade has become outside of school. We have had the ability to have class groups go to functions over the weekends and on weekdays, which has been super fun.” Erin continuously shows her abilities to lead and I hope she is able to carry this into her college years.
As for her plans after high school, Erin’s plans for the future are laid out with many opportunities ahead. “I am planning on attending Northern Michigan University in Marquette. I am pursuing a career in the field of nursing, hopefully working to become a nurse practitioner specializing in pediatrics.” With her degree in nursing she hopes that after college she can find a job in a clinic or physicians office working primarily in pediatrics.
While Erin is just finishing up her senior year, coming closer and closer to the finish line she gives the lowerclassmen and upcoming freshman some advice: “One thing that I would say to any lower-classman is to enjoy your high school experience and the friendships that you make. There will be drama, breakups, and heartbreak, no doubt about that. High school is a milestone in your life; don't wish it away, because you will miss it when it's gone.”
Wish Erin good luck in navigating this new chapter of her life!
