God of War: Ragnarok Release by Nathan Schaefer
God of War: Ragnarok was released November 9th and since then it has received a lot of praise. The God of War video game series follows the journey of Kratos. Kratos is the God of War and has spent his entire life killing other gods whether that is Greek Gods such as Zeus, Poseidon or Hades. He even has gone after Norse gods as well. The main conflict in this video game is Kratos’ fight against Thor who is basically considered the Norse version of Kratos in the way that they both go around killing other gods which makes this an especially interesting conflict. A sub plot of the most recent God of War games (including this one) is focusing on Kratos’ son Atreus.
Kratos is a fictional character that is loosely based off of the Greek God Cratus, who’s name in Roman represents things such as strength, power, and force. Kratos isn’t considered to be a hero or a villain, but he more closely relates to the title of an Anti-Hero. This title is given to other popular fictional characters such as Venom from the Marvel Ccomic Bbook Uuniverse. Another fun fact about Kratos is that in early concepts of his character design, he was shown with long hair, which happens to be the exact opposite of what they ended up doing. If you played the previous games, they have Kratos listed at 7’6”, but in the recent games he comes out to 6’4”, which is still a very intimidating height. This is important to keep in mind for when Thor comes on screen with his ~7’4” frame.
Overall, this game is highly recommended to anyone who loves to play a very well thought out storyline. To get the full experience and context of this story it is recommended to play the previous games. This video game has a lot of gore and things of that nature making it not recommended for a younger audience.
