Clara Suarino by Isabella Smith
Clara came from Glenbard East High School in Lombard, Illinois. It is about a two hour drive, which is a bit of a drive from her old home and old school. Clara and her family came to Saugatuck because her family has had a rental house since she was little. They all loved the town and everything it had to offer. Moving here for them wasn’t completely new, since they had this rental house her whole life. Visiting Saugatuck while she was growing up is a huge advantage, as this helps her know where a few things are. It is important to come to an environment she already knows so she doesn’t feel completely lost.
Clara explains that she definitely likes this school more than her old one; she has enjoyed her classes so far and everyone around her is making a good impression and everyone is nice. She also explains that Saugatuck is a lot smaller than her old school, which is also a big change for her. Coming to a smaller school there are less people to meet, but a better chance to get to know everyone a bit better. She is still trying to find some extracurricular activities that suit her, but she has found that she likes quiz bowl and she joined the team at the beginning of the season. Being on a team at Saugatuck will help to adjust to the change and will also help her meet new people. Being on the quiz bowl team will also help her meet people that have the same interests as her. At her old school she played badminton, which she explains Saugatuck not having a team is mostly the only thing that is different from her old school. Her favorite class last trimester was printmaking, and in this new trimester her favorite class is pre-calc.
Coming to Saugatuck, Clara didn’t know anyone. She explains that she isn’t very social, but there have been a few people that she has talked to. She is hoping that through the year she will meet more people and make more friends. At the moment she hasn’t had much time to explore Saugatuck, but hopefully in the future she will be able to see the town in the spring and find things around town that she would like to do. Coming here to her rental house in the past she has always liked going to the beach every summer. Hopeful Clara will continue to enjoy her time and Saugatuck and she will continue to find things that suit her.
