SHS/SMS Drama Club Presents: A Midsummer Night's Dream by Annika Vanderbeek
The Saugatuck middle school/high school drama club has been working very hard just for the end of next week! Next weekend, students are putting on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” originally by William Shakespeare, but directed by Justine Kolev. Opening Night is on January 19th at 7 o’clock, and other showtimes include the 20th at 7 o’clock and the 21st at 5 o’clock. Tickets are $10 if purchased in advance*, and $12 if purchased the night of the show at the door.
The play, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” is a five-act comedy written by William Shakespeare in the late 1500s. A short summary of this play would be that four Athenians, two men, and two women, run off into the forest. A fairy named Robin Goodfellow or Puck puts a spell on both of the men to make them fall in love with the same girl. If you would like to know what happens next, come see us perform!
Actors in this play include sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth graders. Sixth-grade actors include Joey Bullinger as Quince, Ella Vanderbeek as Snug, Grace Gillmore as a fall fairy, and Sonja Johnson as a fall fairy.
Seventh Grade actors consist of: Sici Clark as Hermia, Ray Darcy as Demetrius, Simon Carr as Flute, Maci Barman as Starveling, Lilly Andexler as Mustardseed, Barrett Barton as a spring fairy, Crystal Gemeinhardt as Philostrate, Liz Grotier as a fall fairy, and Tommy Schneider as a fall fairy.
Next, eighth-grade actors are Matilda Grieves as Theseus, Stella Blubaugh as Hippolytus, Hayden Birkholz as Lysander, Izzy Fisher as Helena, Louisa Baltasi as Peasblossom, Ellie Gillmore as Cobweb, Liberty Kolev as Moth, Bella Jacobusse as a fall fairy, and Lily Manning as fall fairy.
Finally, actors in the ninth grade are Greta Stockburger as Egeus, Petra Johnson as Bottom, Amanda Coney as Snout, Annika Vanderbeek as Puck, Elizabeth Moorer as Titania, Sophia Bovo-Schmokel as Oberon, and Nichole Thompson as a fall fairy.
The students have been putting hours into this play, perfecting it with every rehearsal. If you want to see the product of all these practices, come see the performance weekend!
Tickets are general admission and available for purchase in advance for $10, or can be purchased for $12 at the door.
