Saugatuck Softball by Ella Kuipers
Saugatuck's softball season has officially started and if you wanna learn more about our Softball team here at Saugatuck, then this article is for you! The season started a few weeks ago when this trimester started, and like the other sports here it will be ending along with the school year. The softball season this year is going to have the majority of their games home and only a few away games, and with that there are going to be around 15 games this season.
The softball team here at Saugatuck had their first softball game last week. This game took place last Tuesday, April 9th. This first game was an away game against Fennville. This game took place at Fennville’s softball field. This game was a double header, and Saugatuck won both of the games. For the first, the score was 19-0 with Saugatuck winning, and Fenville was then mercied. The second was 19-4 and again Fenville was mercied. The second softball game for this season will be this Thursday, April 17th against Bridgman.
There were supposed to be two other games for softball in March before the game against Fennville, but they both sadly ended up getting canceled. The softball team is quite small this year with there only being twelve girls, and one of them goes to Black River. Saugatuck high school partners up with Black River high school for the softball team because Saugatuck often does not have enough players, andBlack River also had the same situation. This expands the team and makes it possible to have a softball team for both schools
While the softball team does have both Saugatuck and Black River students, it is mainly Saugatuck students, when there is a home game it is here at the high school field, and practice is also here at the high school rather than Black River. A main role in that is due to the fact that Black River does not have a softball field, and it's also more convenient considering the team is all Saugatuck students besides one Black River student.
