Lions Vs Broncos by Carter Miller
After two losses in a row, Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions bounced back with a 42-17 win over the Denver Broncos. Everything was clicking for the Lions: their defense stepped up, the offense looked sharp, and most importantly, Jared Goff looked amazing
The Lions entered the game fresh off a 28-13 loss to their division rivals the Chicago Bears, dropping them to a 2-2 the past month. The Broncos entered the game winning six of their last seven games. This season, the Lions completed a clean sweep against AFC opponents going 4-0.
Many highlights happened through this game, starting with rookie tight end Sam LaPorta. LaPorta caught his third touchdown pass of the game on fourth-and-two after getting open on a crossing route from a beautifully called play-action pass. Instead of kicking the field goal, Dan Campbell kept the offense on the field and Goff fired his fifth touchdown to his new favorite target.
Speaking of rookies, they have been key aspects of Detroit’s winning this year, especially star running back Jahymr Gibbs. He picked up his second touchdown of the night, this one on the ground, running through a defender at the goal line on a 12-yard pitch off to the left side. Gibbs was untouched until the goal line due to amazing blocking by the offensive line, but used his own strength to get into the end zone. He needed the night with 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also contributed to many clutch first-down conversions.
Late in the third quarter, the Broncos offense was knocking on the door of a second touchdown but failed to score in the end zone due to an offensive offside on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line. After being stopped inches short of the goal line on third down, the Broncos rushed to the line for another attempt, but the offensive lineman’s helmet in the neutral zone drew a flag, stopping the touchdown from counting. The Broncos had to settle for a field goal after the flag, a huge momentum swing for the Lions.
Overall, it was a complete and impressive victory for the Detroit Lions. Now they have to battle for the number one seed with the Eagles losing back-to-back games.
