The Bare Collab Christmas Tree by Annika Vanderbeek
Christmas is coming soon and everybody is excited! This includes whoever put up a Christmas tree in the collab space. Recently, while walking in the hallways, I realized a big pole in the collab space; I was thinking, what could that be? My question was soon answered the next time I came around that area. I noticed that the pole had branches and pine needles. It was a Christmas tree! But why would somebody put this tree up at school? Is it just to get everybody in the holiday spirit? What confused me about this tree was the lack of ornaments. There were no ornaments on the Christmas tree! ZERO! Can we even call it a Christmas tree if it has no ornaments?
I went into further investigation and started asking around about the tree. I asked Mrs. Lewis if she knew anything about it, and she told me that the teachers were supposed to bring things in to decorate the tree. So, the next day I went to check out the ornaments on the tree, but there were still no ornaments!
It had already been three days and there were still no ornaments on the tree, which really confused me. This led me to think, will there ever be anything under that tree? Other than the person lying under the tree when I saw it for the first time, will there be presents under that tree? What if, on Christmas day, presents magically appear under that tree? Nobody would even notice.
Another thing I was wondering about this tree was, who put this thing up? At first, I thought that it was probably just a teacher or the principal, but what if it wasn’t? What if some random kid decided to bring this thing to school and put it up when nobody was looking? Did everybody else just think it was a teacher who brought it in as a surprise? In conclusion, this tree is a big mystery and I can’t wait to see it decorated and I’m hoping to see things under it soon. Maybe by the time you are reading this, the tree will be fully ornamented.
