Upcoming Rodeos by Vivian Vallarsa
Every year in the United States, there are over 600 rodeos. Back in July of last year, the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) announced the competition schedule for 2024. This year, there are major rodeos in 25 cities across 20 states. These states include Arizona, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas, California, Utah, Florida, Indiana, Wisconsin, Arkansas, New Mexico, Idaho, South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Kentucky, and will finish the season with the NFR (National Finals Rodeo) in Nevada.
Last year’s season broke and reset many attendance and competition records, including hosting more than 425,000 fans and selling out 13 events. This past season also led to iconic bull rider JB Mauney’s retirement after breaking his neck during a rodeo last September. Despite this, there is hope for similar or higher attendance this year.
The 2024 season kicked off with a rodeo at Madison Square Garden in New York City on January 5-7. Ever since 1922, the premier of the rodeo season has always taken place at Madison Square Garden.
Upcoming rodeos in January include Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois, on January 12-13, BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on January 19-20, and Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, on January 26-27.
February rodeos include the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California, on February 2-4, Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, on February 9-10, Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, on February 16-17, and VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, on February 23-24.
