Scottie Scheffler Winning the Hero World Challenge and his Putting Woes by Noah Conklin
Recently, pro tour golfer, Scottie Scheffler, won the Hero World Challenge. Here's what all happened.
The Hero World Challenge is a golf event held by Tiger Woods on the Albany Championship course every December since 2000. It involves 20 of the world's top-ranked golfers. The purse in this event is about 4.5 million dollars, and Scottie Scheffler, because he won, was given 1 million out of the 4.5 million. The event is part of the PGA tour schedule but does not count towards points or the FedEx rankings. Also, the event is a benefit for the Tiger Woods Foundation and other foundations. This event is usually just a fun golf round, according to some players like Justin Thomas. Except for Scottie Scheffler, the number-one golfer in the world right now.
Before Tiger Woods began his starting speech for the event, Scottie was tucked away in the corner of the putting green, working on his putting woes with a new coach for two hours straight before the event. Apparently it worked, as he finished at 20 under after the four rounds were over and finished with zero three putts. Scottie, before this event, was ranked 161st in putting this season. On many occasions, his bad putting has cost him a win. Before this event started, Scottie decided he wanted a new putting coach; this new putting coach is Phil Kenyon, who has worked with pros for many years.
Scottie’s putting is described as robotic, and, if you know golf, you need to be relaxed and a little bit stiff. Scottie’s putting woes that showed up happened when he golfed in college. Putting also comes out to be one of the most important things in golf because, like in Scottie’s case, if you miss a putt, you could lose a lot.
