Predicted Trends for 2024 by Sophie Kuipers
As the New Year has rolled around, trend predictions for the year have come with it! Many news outlets and sites have come out with predictions, including The New York Times. In an article titled “What Will Life Be Like in 2024?”, there were 12 guesses made as to what might be trending this year.
Some of these predictions include excitement for Grand Theft Auto VI growing exponentially, themes becoming a staple on red carpets, Gen X and some older millennials starting to abandon social media, and chocolate lava cake making a comeback from the 90’s.
In another article, The New York Times asked 46 filmmakers, artists, chefs, and other people in creative industries for predictions on this year’s cultural trends. In terms of color, people predicted a wide range, but browns and purples with pops of brighter colors were the most commonly predicted. Many people think that the 80’s will begin to come back again, with some hoping that the current comeback of Y2K fashion will start to fade away.
There were also many predictions made about technology, AI, chatbots, etc., most of them guessing that they will be on the rise this year.
Food is another category the 46 creative-thinking people were asked about, and answers varied greatly: some think fusion will decline, others feel like it will continue as time goes on. Some feel like more cultures will be introduced into cuisine, while others predict that farm-to-table and fresh greens will be on the rise.
Many other outlets have made predictions for the year, too. From Pinterest to Vogue to Instagram, numerous websites and papers have made their guesses, whether they be about fashion, art, culture, you name it. All in all, only time will tell what predictions are right and which ones may have missed the mark.
