Lions vs. Saints by Carter Miller
The Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints played on December 3rd, 2023. The Saints mounted a remarkable comeback but turnovers and injuries ultimately led them to defeat, losingdefeat losing 33-28 against the Lions. The loss dropped the Saints to 5-7, losing 3 consecutive games in a row, and the Lions improved to an impressive 9-3.
The Lions owned the first quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points in 7 minutes. Scoring the first touchdown was running back David Montgomery on a 2-yard run, a 13-yard pass from Jared Goff to rookie tight end Sam LaPorta put them up 14-0, and the final touchdown of the quarter was a 25-yard pass from Goff to Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Lions added a 26-yard field goal at the end of the first half, their only points of the second quarter. The Saints were outgained 146-33 in the first quarter but bounced back in the second quarter as Carr led an 84-yard drive to end with a 6-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jimmy Graham.
With the Saints being down 24-7 at the half, they needed to get momentum going. They did just that in the second half. They scored 14 unanswered points to start the half with short touchdown runs by Alvin Kamara and Taysom Hill to make it 24-21. The Lions added a short field goal making it 27-21. Then disaster struck for the Saints. On the first play of their drive after the Lions made a field goal, quarterback Derrick Carr fumbled and gave the ball back to the Lions with excellent field position. The Lions took over on the 26-yard line and would immediately score with a 19-yard run by Jameson Williams to make it 33-21. This would ultimately seal the deal for the Lions and win them the game.
The Lions will be traveling to SoldierSolider FieldFiled next week to take on their division rivals the Chicago Bears(4-8). While the Saints will be hosting the Carolina Panthers(1-10) and hope to end their 3-game losing streak.
