Bryce Mitchell by Chase Seeley
This year, Saugatuck Middle and High School is welcoming many new students to our program, and here today we are looking forward to covering Bryce Mitchell, a 7th grader that has just completed his first trimester in the Saugatuck school system.
Bryce was interviewed in order to hear his story, get his input on the school system, and learn about some of his interests.
Bryce came to Saugatuck from Creekside Middle School in Zeeland, Michigan. He decided to come here because his family moved into the area and so far the people here are more than happy to have him. Bryce says that his favorite teacher is the 7th to 8th grade Language Arts teacher, Neal Phillips, and he praises all of his teachers for being very kind and nice. His favorite class currently is Physical Education, which is taught by Sherri Austin. His favorite time of day is lunch, and he enjoys hanging out with his friend Aydin Everett. Bryce also enjoys listening to old school rap.
When asked about what the school could improve on, Bryce stated that nothing in particular came to mind. He exclaimed how much more he enjoyed the food here than his former school. He again spoke very fondly of all of his teachers and how they are way nicer and more understanding than teachers that he has had in the past. He also says that he feels very welcomed and accepted by his fellow classmates.
Middle school is a very important time to have a good environment and good people to allow you to learn at the highest level. Saugatuck strives to accomplish that to every extent.
Saugatuck students Middle and High, don't be afraid to reach out to a new kid whether that be Bryce or anybody else that has joined recently and just ask how they're doing. A little bit of kindness can go a long way, especially if you're new and don't have any connections yet. And who knows, you might even make a new friend that could last a lifetime. At the very least it will brighten someone's day and let them know that people care.
