JV Basketball Off to a Strong Start by Ashtyn O'Neill
This week starts the third week of the Girls JV Basketball season. These first three weeks have been filled with many practices, scrimmages, and team outings. With their first games being this past Tuesday, December 5th against South Haven, and Thursday, December 7th against Gobles, everyone is looking forward to seeing how their season progresses.
When asked about how she feels about the season starting, Addie Gumpert, a freshman on the team said, “I’m really excited for our season to start; I think it’s going to be a good season and we for sure have some strong players. The team is already super close and our coaches are also amazing.”
When asked a similar question, Abbie Tower, another Freshman on the team, states, “Being new to playing, I’m excited to learn more about the sport and grow as a player. Through the help of my coaches and my teammates, I think I’ll be able to learn pretty quickly.”
Lexi Stoin, a sophomore, said the following to the same question: “I’m excited to see how we all work together as a team this year; there’s a lot of strong freshmen, so I can’t wait to see how that affects our team chemistry and the way we play. Overall, though, I think it’s going to be a strong season.”
The program is also introducing a couple of new people who have never played before, including freshmen Ava Phelps and Abbie Tower, and Sophomore Ashtyn O’Neill. These girls have all stepped out of their comfort zone and are trying something new and we can’t wait to see how they will progress throughout the season.
Unfortunately, one of their players has already been injured and will be out for a month. At their away game at South Haven on Tuesday, Sophomore Jordan Sanders got pushed to the ground by a player on the opposing team, which led to a buckle fracture in her wrist. She will be out for approximately 3-4 weeks, but she will be back later in the season.
Despite one member being injured, the Junior Varsity girls are in for a strong and exciting season, so please come out and support them, if you get the chance!
