Luke Mattson by Maddie Villalobos
Over the years, Saugatuck High School has had a variety of exchange students. This year, 12th grader Luke Mattson has joined the school coming from New Zealand. Luke had a little harder time adjusting due to the time zone being different from New Zealand, but a benefit that helped was school because Saugatuck High School is a bit smaller, so it was easier for him to get to know people faster.
Luke is 17 years old with a big passion for his family, his parents, and his brother, whom he misses while being in Michigan. His biggest life goal is always to support and be there for his family. While Luke is taking many classes here, his favorite is Wood tech because it interests him.
Luke Mattson likes America and Saugatuck High School. He would come back to visit to see everyone because it's different, and the people here are friendly. Luke didn't just come to play football but to experience the sport overall because he has been wanting to play because they don't have the sport in New Zealand. All he could do at the moment was watch it from home, so he did that for approximately 10 years. Since he has gotten the chance to play football, he's noticed that his coaches are nice and cool.
Unfortunately, Luke Mattson is only here for a limited amount of time; therefore, he's going back home in January. Once he goes back home, his thoughts are on working because this year at Saugatuck is his last year at school overall.
