National Pasta Day! by Andre R.K.
Happy National Pasta Day, everyone! This past week, specifically October 17, was National Pasta Day. Starting in 1995, Americans and Italians celebrated this beloved food. This day is set aside every year to celebrate this delicious carb. Now there are other days to celebrate specific types of pasta, like alfredo, so make sure to check those out. This day is for all pasta types, so make sure to enjoy them all. From fettuccine, linguine, tortellini, and so much more, today is the day for every single one.
As many know, pasta came from the beloved Italy, but when and how? In the 19th century, a large group of people immigrated from Italy to America, and they then shared this prize carb with all. Slowly but surely, the love for pasta spread. This lovely dish has spread its way through the country and has become many people’s comfort food. As with anything, pasta has spread throughout the world and those countries have since then made their own version of pasta. Whether it be dumplings in Jerusalem, pierogi in Poland, or even spaghetti and meatballs in the US, pasta has now become one of the easiest-to-access foods in the world. Surprisingly, Thomas Jefferson is one of the main reasons pasta is so popular nowadays. During his stay in Paris in the late 1700s, Jefferson often ate what he called macaroni. Now his version of macaroni could have been any form of pasta, historians aren’t quite sure. Since Jefferson took a particular liking to this Italian dish, he returned to America with two cases full of different types of pasta. He didn’t share this lovely dish until his two cases were full and he sent for more. Then along with the cases of pasta came those immigrants who then shared pasta with the states.
Remember to enjoy your pasta everyone and thank Thomas Jefferson for demanding more pasta be brought to the US!
