JV Girls Basketball So Far by Nova DeGraaf
The basketball season for the boys and girls junior varsity and varsity has begun. The past two weeks all teams have begun their practices in preparation for their games. This week each team will have two games, both at home or away.
Specifically, the girls junior varsity had their first game this past Tuesday, December 5th. They left for South Haven at 4:30 pm and arrived at around 5:00 pm. Their game started at 5:30 and finished around 8:00 pm. The final score of the game was 28-24 with the South Haven Rams taking the win. However, the Trailblazers were not far behind, having a comeback halfway through the game, but still falling short after giving it their best shot. They also had another game this week on Thursday December 7th. The final score for this game ended up being 34-33 with the Trailblazers winning by a very close margin, pulling through at the very end of the game. With their team effort and .6 seconds on the clock, they ran an out-of-bounds play to score the final winning shot for the game.
The previous coach, Coach Birch, is sadly not coaching the JV team this year. However, the JV team also has acquired two new great coaches this season, Coach O and Coach Mint. Coach O is a retired police officer from Chicago that has left there and now lives around this area. Coach Mint is on the board of the SCA, living around the Saugatuck area. She had originally reached out to the school asking if they had needed any help with the program this year. At the time there were no other coaches, so the school took her up on her offer.
Make sure you come out and support the junior varsity team next week for their games on Tuesday, December 12th and Thursday, December 14th. Go Trailblazers!
