Softball Season Starting by Mikaila Jones
Softball season is just around the corner. The season officially begins on March 13, 2023. This is how a sophomore here at Saugatuck High School, Prudence Hosier (Pru) is feeling about this year's season:; “I’m so excited; it’s going to be a great season. I am really looking forward to it. It's gonna be fun and we’re gonna have fun whether we win or lose. We’re gonna make the best of it.” Pru has been on the team for 2 years now. She was on the team last year, so she is going to be one of the ones to see how this year is different from last year. She will also be able to help us improve on things that we need to improve on.
This should be a good year as the Saugatuck Varsity softball team has gone up a division. A lot of the girls are excited, but still nervous about the season. There are multiple new athletes on the team this year. There are lots of new friendships forming already. Here is what Coach Burch’s goals for this year's team are:, “Kill development, physical fitness, nutrition, motivational/mental fitness, interpersonal, sportsmanship,; academic.” Coach Burch has been coaching this team for 2 years now. Coach Burch is also being helped by two of last year's athletes: Aryssa Knicklebine and Kenzie Brothers. They were a big part of the team last year as they were seniors, so everyone looked up to them and are glad that they are helping out this year as well.
I interviewed another sophomore from Saugatuck High School, Camryn Howard (Cam) and this is how she is feeling about this year's season:; “I feel like it is going to be fun to form new relationships and it's going to be interesting to see how this season goes. I am ready to see how this team bonds and moves forward together.” Cam has also been on the team for 2 years. She is also going to be able to see the changes from last season to this one. She will also be able to help coach out to notice what we are doing differently from last year, and notice if that is a good or bad thing that those changes happened.
This season will be full of fun, excitement, entertainment, and much more. The girls are very excited for this season to start and to play many new teams this year. Just like last year, they will be playing double header games. They are very excited to be facing new girls and playing different levels of challenge this year. These girls are ready for the fun to begin. They start their very first official practice for the Saugatuck High School 2023 season next week on March 13. They have moved up a division, so with this being said they are going to have to work extra hard at practice. They need to make sure they are taking good care of themselves and each other.
Saugatuck High School freshman, Penelope Grob (Penny), will be playing for the first time on the team. Penny says, “I am very excited for softball to start again because I have a whole new team that I have never played with before, so I can bond with many new people. Another thing I’m excited for is just softball in general. I have played my whole life and have been waiting for a while to play again.” While interviewing student athletes they said that this is going to be a memorable experience and a very fun time to be a Saugatuck Varsity Softball member.
