Christmas Break is Coming by Annika Vanderbeek
Christmas is almost here! Christmas break starts after school on the 22nd of December, and we get back to school on the 8th of January. I'm sure everybody is excited for this magical time to begin; I can already smell the aroma of the Christmas tree and mistletoe, and of course, we will all enjoy spending time with our family and friends.
I can’t wait to feel that special excitement of waking up one freezing day, towards the end of break, to have the whole house sleeping soundly because of the snowflakes quietly dancing outside. A snow day! I’m sure everybody is secretly hoping to have as many snow days as possible. All that snow would bring me to think about the sweet smell of Christmas cookies and gingerbread houses. I can’t wait to feel the frigid air outside, knowing that Christmas is on its way!
Hearing songs like “Jingle Bells”, “Silent Night”, “Sleigh Ride”, and “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” really gets the Christmas spirit flowing around the whole town. That reminds me of the beautiful decorations in downtown Saugatuck. The air there just feels so different, driving around at sunset, seeing the glowing lights line the trees. To see the colorful lighting of Christmas trees inside houses, the kids playing in the snow, and sledding, all of it makes me so thrilled to wake up on Christmas morning.
So much anticipation is building up inside of me for this one special day! How will I go to sleep on Christmas Eve? Will I fall right asleep, my eyes heavy, or will I stay up for hours not being able to drift away? In the morning, will I wake up bright and early, ready to celebrate, or will sleep in as much as possible? But in the end, it's all the same: I’ll get up sometime and we will all have a nice enjoyable Christmas. I’m just so excited to be tearing wrapping paper off of gifts, eating Christmas dinner, stuffing my face with Christmas cookies, and having fun. All I really care about though, is just having fun on Christmas day with family and friends.
