Weather That Is Taking Over Michigan by Lexi Brooks
Over the past week, the weather in Michigan has been pretty insane. In the fall of 2023, there were rumors going around that Michiganders would have a mild, calm winter. They were very wrong.
In December there was no snow for the holidays and it was one of the warmest Decembers on record, but after the holiday break, people were welcomed back with 30-degree weather and slight snow.
In the month of January so far there has been lots of snow. There was a little snow at the beginning of the month, but now in the middle of the month, there is about 1.5 to 2 feet of snow outside. With all the snow that has been coming in from the Southwest, it has led to many school activity cancellations and snow days.
It looks like in the upcoming months it is supposed to stay in the mid 20’s and 30’s towards the end of February. From the predictions so far, it looks like February is going to be filled with lots of snow and be pretty cold. That could all change because it's very hard to look so far into the future.
Students at Saugatuck Public Schools say that it has been very cold and we should have had more snow days. Another student stated that she wondered what the thought process is when it comes to choosing the snow days. They also stated how our school has not lined up with other schools in our district. There have been days this past week that have been very cold. Even the wind chill would get into the negatives.
Hopefully in the days and months to come there will be warmer days with sun and no snow. The snow is a very pretty thing to have, but maybe not for half the year.
