Lexi Brooks by Abby Neuens
Lexi Brooks is the newest student in Saugatuck High School’s ninth grade class, coming all the way from Interlochen School of the Arts, a boarding school in Traverse City. She described herself as “creative,” a term most would find fitting, as she enjoys all forms of art, but mainly drawing, painting, and dancing. She came to Saugatuck because of the help from a close family friend working in the school.
Lexi said that it’s far too early to be able to choose a favorite teacher or class, but she is excited about journalism and has had great experiences with her classes so far. Aside from journalism, she’s also excited for our sports games, as she described Interlochen as having horrible sports teams. Her first impression of the school itself was, “Man, that’s small.” Thankfully, the people here have not had small hearts, and have seemed to welcome her perfectly, holding up a great reputation for the school.
Her family has lived in Holland for most of her life, so Saugatuck is not a new town to her, but she still describes it as beautiful. She loves the fall weather, making Saugatuck the perfect lakeside town to go to school in so that she can see the trees and weather change through the seasons.
Lexi has a busy life with both her hobbies and her pets, with two dogs, one bunny, one hairless guinea pig, one snake, and one lizard, she still finds the time to admire the beauty of nature. She went to Interlochen for their art program, so maybe she’ll bring some more creative energy to our school. She has even sold some of her pieces at a gallery in Holland. Most of her art is inspired by her grandma, who taught her to paint her entire life. Lexi said that she “wanted to continue the legacy after she passed.”
Some of Lexi’s favorite things are tacos, animals, and family time. She carries her love for those things over to her treatment of everyone around her, as she is incredibly compassionate, entertaining, and obviously a great fit for our school.
