iPad Models 2022 by Landon A. Opipari
Apple have recently unveiled their new iPad line up. This includes a new 11 inch and 12.9 inch iPad Pro. Along with a refresh for the standard iPad.
The new features on the iPad Pro are the M2 processor on MacBooks, a better screen, and 6G. The standard iPad gets an A14 chip, better screen, and camera. It features technology useduse on previous iPads and iPhones.
The CPU runs around 18% faster, with a 35% better GPU according to stats listed by Apple. In terms of the screen, the iPad Pro 11 inch keeps the Liquid Retina display from last year’s models. The 12.9 inch iPad, however, gains a mini led display. These are the same as last year’s models.
The big difference between led and mini led is the quality of image. Standard led display has a large amount of lighting zones, around a few hundred or so per panel. A mini led display tends to have around a thousand or more led zones. What this means is greater contrast, higher brights, and blacks that come as close to an OLED (absolute black) as possible.
The cameras see a slight boost. Cinematic mode supports 4K 30fps on 256gb and high models. In addition to this, smart hdr 4 is used to process photos with a more efficient algorithm.
Smaller upgrades include: the wifi being bumped up to support 6E waves, and Bluetooth being upgraded to version 5.3. These aren’t touted as selling points, but they do help to make the iPad more practical for business use.
The iPad Pro 2022 models have one exclusive feature completely new to any ipad. That feature is called the ‘hover mode’, and it’s for the Apple Pencil. This lets the pencil hover above the display, and show a preview of what edits the user could make. It does need app developer support to have full integration; not every app will have it. As Apple describes it, “Apple Pencil is now detected up to 12 mm above the display, allowing users to see a preview of their mark before they make it. This also allows users to sketch and illustrate with even greater precision, and makes everything users do with Apple Pencil even more effortless” (Apple.com).
In recent years the iPad has become very powerful. This generation is no different. The M2 processor is groundbreaking in the tablet space. But it remains a great casual device for most users. The only issue the iPad still has is a lack of apps to take advantage of its power.
