Hopes/Expectations for Upcoming Tri-Meet Against Black River and Martin by Marcus Silva
Last weekend, Saugatuck Track’s freshman and sophomores competed at Hartford and had some impressive performances from many different athletes. Coming off of that, this Wednesday the track team has a Tri-Meet at Martin. Looking at current season data, Saugatuck had a great chance of winning this meet and scoring a bunch of points to take home the win.
First of all, let’s talk about the meet line up for the boys. On the sprinting side there are a lot of promising events. In the 100 meters, William Doucett followed by Chris Foley were seeded to take first and second place respectively in that event. In the 200, Jaxon Green was seeded 2nd followed by Cass Stanberry who was supposed to take 3rd and then Nick Petrik in 4th which was great for the team point wise. In the 400 meters, there are 4 runners that were expected in the top 5 from Saugatuck, which is huge, as there is little opposition in that event, allowing them to score big points. To continue, with the 800 on the distance side, the top three were all Saugatuck runners with Marcus Silva, Sammy Gamboa, and Grant Rehkopf. In the 1600 and 3200, Holland Black River had one runner in first place, but following him are all Saugatuck runners once again. There are many other events for the boys where people are expected to place very highly.
For the girls it is pretty much the same situation. There are many high scorers and fast times for the girls teams; here are some of the highlights: in the 100 meters the top 2 runners are Mazie Robison and Brook Simpson leading the race. Mazie Robison is also seeded first in the 60 meter hurdles and 100 meter hurdles. Novella DeGraaf and Mazie Robison were seeded first and second in the 300 meter hurdles as well. In the 400, Brook was seated first place. In the 800, Kamryn Sixberry and Lyvia Curtis were seeded first and second. There were some tough distance runners for our girls team from Holland Black River, but they all raced great.
Although crummy weather was forecasted, the team stayed strong and raced great the whole way.
