Most Popular Weather Apps by Mallory Hass
As of recently, Michigan has housed lots of unpredictable weather. This has heightened the usage of weather apps. This could leave you wondering which weather apps are the most accurate.
As of recently, weather apps have likely been booming in usage since the winter storm season has started; however, these apps are often inaccurate and misleading, especially when it comes to lake-effect weather conditions. So which weather apps are the most accurate, and what additional features do they each have?
First, the default weather app for Apple users: the Weather app. This app, surprisingly, is rated 4.8 stars on the App Store. It does not seem to be a favorite among Michigan residents, seemingly because of the inaccuracy of predicting lake-effect weather patterns. This app allows users to pin many different locations, as well as providing them with the option of seeing the weather at their location. Forecasts can be viewed as far away as 10 days out. There is also a radar feature of the app, which allows people to see the precipitation mapped in their area. Other features are also available on the Weather app. Some of these are as follows: the UV index, sunset and sunrise times, wind, humidity, visibility, and information about the moon cycle.
The next app that we are going to take a look at is very popular among many. This app is called The Weather Channel. It is rated 4.7 stars on the App Store with more than 3.7 million reviews. The Weather Channel houses many of the same features that the Apple weather app does, as well as some news stories about the weather around the world. This app also provides users with the option to track severe storms and hurricanes, which proves very helpful to those potentially in harm’s way.
The last app that we will be reviewing is AccuWeather. AccuWeather is rated at 4.6 stars on the App Store. AccuWeather, once again, has all of the features of Apple’s weather app, as well as articles, news stories, and videos on the weather. During the winter season, AccuWeather has a feature of the app that shows how much snow/ice is predicted to come in certain locations, as well as the time that it will occur at. Another nice feature of AccuWeather that most weather apps don’t have is their 45-day forecast.
