Samuel Richardson-Smaller by Jessica Richardson-Smaller
This week, we had the opportunity to interview different seniors, finding out more about their senior year so far, as well as what they plan to do after graduation. The second senior I interviewed was Sam Richardson-Smaller.
Sam has spent a lot of time applying for and deciding on which college he wanted to go to. Last year, he was able to visit Columbia College in Chicago, capturing his interest and love for film making. He has decided to attend Columbia College and pursue a major in film. He discussed how he has always wanted to study film, and likes how different Columbia is from any school. He also loves how very different it is from Saugatuck, as Chicago is a city and a much larger and different place.
Sam then went on to discuss his feelings/thoughts about his senior year so far: “I think senior year has probably been the most fun year of high school and probably the one I’ll remember most fondly when looking back on high school.” Another question he was asked was what he was looking forward to when the year comes to an end, to which he stated: “I’m looking forward to my birthday, which is the day before the senior’s last day of school.” Before the year ends, Sam wants to do something nice for his grade, whether that is bringing something in, or planning something with the help of other seniors, to try and alleviate the stress they might be feeling being seniors, and to make sure they have at least one fun good day which he can help with.
Sam has also participated in the film club, of which he is now the president. He went on to talk about how this was his favorite club, and although he might be biased because of being the president, he discusses how it is a really fun and unique club which will be in capable hands next year when he leaves and hands it over to another student.
The last question he was asked was if he could give one piece of advice to underclassmen, what it would be, he states: “One piece of advice I have is to make the most of the days you’re at school. It’s really easy to get caught up in looking forward to the weekend, but it’s important to enjoy the time you spend at school with your friends.”
