Christmas Spirit Week by Annika Vanderbeek
Christmas break is here right now and you know what that means… Spirit week! Last week, students had lots of fun dressing up to festive themes here at Saugatuck Public Schools! Here were the spirit themes for the week of December 18- December 22, 2023: Monday- Festive PJs, Tuesday- Winter gear, Wednesday- Holiday Cheer, Thursday- Ugly Sweaters, and Friday- Class colors.
Monday was a comfy day for everyone, and some of the teachers even participated! It was pretty weird to see the teachers just doing their job, teaching us in pajamas, since they are usually more formal, but at least they had a day to be comfortable.
On Tuesday (Winter gear day), a lot of people were probably pretty hot, especially if they wore their coats and snow pants. The skiers wore their skiing goggles, but unfortunately, nobody wore their skis last Tuesday.
Holiday cheer day, which was Wednesday, was definitely the most festive of the week. I saw a lot of red and green, colorful lights, and lots of Christmas Santa hats. There was a lot of crazy hats, necklaces, and other holiday decorations.
Thursday, ugly sweater day, was the most important day. Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without these weird holiday sweaters! I don't know why, but I love the feeling of an old scratchy red and green sweater, decorated with bells and stars. It just brings out the Christmas spirit in everybody. And maybe it's just me, but every year the ugly Christmas sweaters keep getting uglier and uglier!
Finally, Friday is class colors day! The freshmen wore gray or silver, sophomores wore green, juniors red, and seniors wore white. This was really cool to just see people walking down the halls while being color coded.
In closing, Spirit Week brought Christmas cheer to an all-time high this year, and Christmas is just around the corner! Even though it probably won’t be a white Christmas this year, we can still all have an amazing time during this Christmas season, whether you are spending time with family or friends. Have a great Christmas everybody!
