The JV volleyball team went to Black River Tuesday night to compete in a tri against both Black River and Zion Christian.
Their first match was against Black River. They lost in their very first set against Black River, the score being 17 to 25. They came back out and ready to fight, however, in their second set, and beat the opposing team 25 to 18. In the third and final match, Saugatuck pulled out the win, with a close score of 16 to 14. The team had played Black River multiple times, but had never been able to win an entire match against them, so they were very excited to take home this win.
In the second match, the team played off against Zion Christian. They played right away, and carried the momentum of their first game into this match. They won the first match with an ending score of 27 to 25, making it a very close and intense game. Saugatuck managed another win in their second set, with a closing score of 25 to 21.
Ellery Panepento, a freshman on the team, commented: “I think that the game today went great! We had some great serves, and some great hits. I think that overall we did a good job at getting to the ball and being scrappy, I think something that we need to work on still would definitely be being louder and knowing who is going to get the ball. But I think overall we had 2 really great games!”
Audrey Rodewald is another freshman on the team. When asked how she thought that the games went, she said, “These games were really fun and exciting, and I think that we all worked really well together to pull out two wins! As the season is coming to an end, I think that these two games specifically show how much we have improved over the season. I’m really proud of how far everyone has come!”
The team is very excited for their upcoming tri on Thursday night. It will be the last game of their season, and they’re ready to finish out strong.
