Past and New Weather by Logan Luft
The week of January 9th through January 15th was an interesting week for us all. For the Saugatuck Trailblazers, we had a total of two snow days, which mentally saved some of us, or made getting work done more difficult. Many seniors also didn’t show up on Thursday, January 11th, which added to the days off. Lastly, Martin Luther King Day also occurred on Monday, January 15th. All of these combined gave us a total of 6 days off in a row, or 5 days off normally for Juniors below.
We all know that the weather was very cold this last week, but exactly how cold was it? According to TimeAndDate, a trusted weather source, we can visually see that on Tuesday, January 9th there was a high of 39°F and a low of 36°F. January 10th, 11th, and 12th consisted of the same type of weather, with a large amount of snowfall. This wasn’t bad at all; however, this started the downward trend in weather. Although on Saturday, January 13th there was still the same amount of snowfall, the lowest temperature reached 25°F, which has been the lowest we have seen this winter.
This is where the start of the cold weather begins. On Sunday, January 14th, the temperature was a high 25°F and a surprisingly low 14°F with what felt like heavy snowfall. Wind speeds were also around 15 mph, which increased the RealFeel of the temperature. On Monday, January 15th, the temperature was a high of 18°F and a low of 14°F. Although both of these days seem really cold, today (January 16th), has so far seen a high 16°F and a shocking low 10°F, as well as 15 mph wind speeds.
How does this weather compare to next week? According to the same weather source, TimeAndDate, it will continue to snow all of next week with the exception of Sunday, January 21st. Although this weather seems bad, there will be some signs of sunlight. On the 17th, 18th, and 20th, there will be a small bit of sunlight. This will ultimately make it feel a little bit warmer; however, the highest temperatures next week will be 37°F on Tuesday, January 23rd, which will also consist of rain changing into snow. The lowest next week will be January 20th, which will be -1°F.
Although the weather is changing, and it seems to be changing really fast, be on the lookout for many ups and downs that may occur throughout this week, and stay safe.
