On November 8th, 2022, Michigan voted for its new governor and the three new proposals. The candidates were the current governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, and her opponent, Tudor Dixon. Gretchen Whitmer won the election and is still the governor of Michigan; she won with 54.5% (2,426,365) of voters. Dixon was at 43.9% (1,956,599) of voters.
Proposal 22-1 was to require annual public financial disclosure reports by legislator and other stare officers and change state legislature term limit to 12 total years in legislature. This would require members of legislature, governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, and attorney general to file annual public financial disclosure reports after 2023. This Proposal was passed by 66.5%
Proposal 22-2 was to also amend the state constitution to add a provision regarding elections.
The proposal would recognize the fundamental right to vote without harassing conduct; It would require military or overseas ballots to be counted if postmarked by election day. It would provide voter rights to verify identity with photo ID or signed statement. Another provision was to provide voter rights to a single application to vote absentee in all elections. It would require state-funded absentee-ballot drop boxes and postage of absentee applications and ballots. It also said that only election officials may conduct post-election audits, and required borders to certify election results based only on the officials record of votes cast. This Proposal was passed by 60%
Proposal 22-3 would also amend the state constitution, as it set out to establish new individual rights to reproductive freedom, making it so any woman in the state of Michigan has the right to make all decisions about their pregnancy and abortion,such as childbirth, prenatal care postpartum care, infertility, miscarriage care, and abortion. With this proposal, it Invalidated state laws conflicting with this amendment. This Proposal was passed by 56.7%
