What is Journalism Class? by Annalise Ascencio
Saugatuck High School has a journalism class students can take for an extra elective. Journalism is easy and there's no way that you can fail (as long as you do your work) but it is also very fun!
Journalism is mostly writing, reading articles, and listening to podcasts, and creating the yearbook. When writing articles there is no limit on what you can write! It can be anything from food to politics and everything in between!
Two articles are expected to be written by the end of the week. It doesn’t have to be too long; write whatever comes to mind. Each person chooses two article ideas, then does a little digging or even interviewing.
On Wednesdays, students can choose whatever podcast they want to listen to. Then, they fill out a paper about the podcast. Also, every Monday and Friday, the expectation is to read two Associated Press articles; students can choose what articles they want to read about, then write a short summary and share our opinion about the article.
When people are doing their work, Journalism is very peaceful and quiet. It’s a great class!
