Meera AbuZarour by Xander VerHelst
Meera AbuZarour is an exchange student from Nablus, Palestine. Her 2023-2024 plans are to return back to Palestine and finish her last year off at high school back at home.
She said that she has had very mixed feelings about being here in the states; she has had a great time so far, but also is sad and misses home. Meera said that any advice she should give would be to the other exchange students, and her advice was to expect nothing, that all of it is unpredictable; basically, expect the unexpected.
Meera has just joined Saugatuck's soccer team and is very excited. She also loves to volunteer and help people. She very much enjoyed her winter here in Michigan; she has gone skiing twice and learned how to ice skate. It doesn't snow in Palestine, so she was very excited for the opportunity to experience it.
Meera said that her time here in the United States is one of her biggest life changing experiences and she is so glad that she decided to go. She said that she would still love to keep in contact with people here, but is worried that they don't want to keep in contact with an exchange student. She hopes to come back and meet with her friends here again.
Once she returns to Palestine, she is excited to see her friends and family again. Meera has three sisters: Lina, Dyala, and Luma. She said she misses having sleepovers with her cousins at her grandma's house, and is hoping to get her drivers license once she gets back.
