What It's Like to Write for the Orange Crush by Lance Oczepek
In Journalism, a class taught by Ms. Lewis, the students are tasked with writing articles for the school newspaper, the Orange Crush. Some students were interviewed about what it's like writing for the paper. The students who were asked these questions included Luke Barde and Ben Schoonmaker.
First off, both of the students were asked about their favorite part of writing for the paper.Luke said that he really enjoys writing and journalism lets you explore your interests when writing. Ben said that he gets to learn about random stuff that he doesn't normally get to learn about. It seems that each of these students likes to find fun subjects to write about. So how do these students find things to write about? Luke says that he goes into his mind and finds the first thing that pops out and tries to think how it could be used to write an article. Rhys on the other hand says that he looks at current events and recent things that have happened around the school that he finds interesting. This week Luke is writing articles about Wyatt Looman and brain rot. Rhys is writing about the Iowa caucuses and the rescheduled AP Gov Trip. It's apparent that each of the students has a different way of thinking when it comes to writing.
The process of writing an article can be challenging sometimes, but the writers still get it done. To start, the students must first pick their topic. After this, they start writing their articles. Once this is done each student shares their article with a fellow student and that student edits the article. Next, the edited article is sent to one of the designated editors for another edit. Finally, the article is sent to Ms. Lewis, edited, then uploaded to the newspaper's website. It is a long process but it is something that the students have been working on for every week this entire semester.
