What Are Saugatuck’s Track Athletes Favorite Events? by Sawyer Monroe
We'll be looking at Saugatuck Track’s boys and girls, and what their favorite event in track is.
For those who do not understand the rules of track and how track works, it is pretty simple. There are four basic categories: sprints, distance, hurdles and field events. You will find some people in more than one category, but you most likely will not find a sprinter in a distance event and vice versa. Most track athletes will have tried field events at some point in their track career, some may have found it was not for them and others may have found that it was.
Within each category, there are individual and some team events like relays. In the sprints there is the 100 meter sprint, the 200 meter sprint, the 400 meter sprint, the 4x100 meter relay, and the 4x200 meter relay. Then there are hurdles which are short like a sprint but you have hurdles or obstacles you have to jump over.
Then there is distance which as the name suggests you have to run longer distances like the 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, and 3200 meter run, and there is also a distance relay the 4x800 relay.
Lastly there are field events like shot put, discus, pole vault, long jump, and high jump. These are all field events because they involve little to no running. They each have special and individual rules.
Now, for the important part, the part you have all been waiting for. What are the track athletes favorite events? In 5th we have a tie with the 200 meter dash and 4x100 meter relay, both are sprinting events. In 3rd place we have the 2 mile run, and in first place we have a tie between the 100 meter sprint and the 1600 meter run.
These are the top five events that Saugatuck's boys and girls track athletes have voted for, so you may be able to count on these events being the events that track athletes want to be in. It is likely that these events will always be filled at track meets.
