Get to Know Benny Majer by Caiden Pearson
Benny Majer is a 16-year-old student studying in Saugatuck, Michigan on an exchange year. He is originally from Germany in the Stuttgart area, where he spends most of his time playing handball.
Back in Germany, Benny lives near Stuttgart. Here in Saugatuck, Benny resides with the Lewis family, he says they have a lovely house. He enjoys playing FIFA with Cam (a member of the Lewis family) even though he is not very good; Cam still lets him win sometimes. In an interview with Cam, he stated: “Yeah, I feel bad for him sometimes because he's so bad at FIFA. I feel bad, so I have to let him win sometimes.”
Benny joined the soccer team later in the season, but still played a big role as a defensive player. Benny's previous experience with coaching, playing, and refing handball helped him play soccer in America.
In Germany, Benny attended the "Walther-Groz-Schule”, a business-focused high school. He is unsure what to pursue, but he likes going into business and is still contemplating other career options. Benny finds the business pursuit interesting because his dad is a lawyer, and his mom is an accountant.
Benny said his favorite thing to do in Germany was to hang out with his friends, and they would get into many shenanigans. He likes to indulge in his favorite food, called Köttbullar.
Benny hoped to play baseball this spring to get the most out of his exchange year. He did try out for basketball at the start of winter, but unfortunately, he did not make the team.
Benny said that his mom forced him to come to America for a year as an exchange student. His mom's reasoning was to get him out into the world and explore new opportunities to see if he would like any of them. Another reason of hers is to give Benny another year of school back in Germany to think about what he would like to pursue in the future.
Benny can be seen roaming the halls, and if you see him, definitely stop and say hi.
