Christmas in Germany by Daniela Nkurunziza
Since it is Halloween season, it is almost Christmas time! In Germany, we do not have Thanksgiving, and I was thinking about how Christmas looks in Germany.
First of all, in the beginning of the month of December, German cities organize small Christmas markets where you can buy things like mulled wine, crepes,
chocolate, chocolate strawberries, and more. The idea of this is to bring people together and enjoy the time before Christmas.
On December 6, Germans celebrate Nicolasday where little kids put their shoes in front of their doors and wait until the next morning to see if St. Nicolaus brought them chocolate or small gifts. I got small little gift shoes because I do not like candy or chocolate. My mum always gave effort in these little gifts. It was so cute. It is a tradition for little children, but my mum is still doing that for me. Normally, my friends and Iare do fun things together. Mostly, we bake Christmas cookies or brownies. We also make hot chocolate by ourselves and watch many Christmas movies. Of course we buy presents for each other and surprise each other.
We celebrate Christmas on the 24 of December in the evening.
On Christmas Day I usually wake up at around 10a.m and have breakfast with my mum. After a while we always watch the Christmas movie, The Christmas Story. It is a famous movie in Germany and gets played on Christmas every year at lunchtime. In the afternoon we habitually go to church singing and listening to the Choir and t5he pastor. Afterwards, we go to our house and open our Christmas gifts which lies under the Christmas tree. While we open our gifts we listen to Christmas music and eat duck. I love when my mum is doing this kind of dinner. It is sooo good!
What I really love about Christmas, besides all these presents and two weeks out of school is, people are coming together and celebrating and having a good time.
