Baseball Season Starting by Sage Larsen
On March 13 the Varsity baseball season starts up. The boys have 2 full weeks of practice before they have their first game. The first game will take place at home against Hartford High School.
Last season the team didn’t have enough players for two different teams. This meant that the chemistry of the team had to be refreshed. The players not only had to get used to each other, but also their new coaches. Noah Morgan said: “It was a rough season last year, a lot of good memories were made and we got closer as a team. I think we could do better this year, but we need to work better as a team than last year. I think we’re all excited and can’t wait for the upcoming season.” This team, as mentioned, has a lot of potential for the upcoming season and everyone is excited to see how they play together.
This season the baseball team will consist of mostly sophomores. This will be some sort of benefit to them because they will have better chemistry with each other. Along with the sophomores, many juniors will be with them. The group of boys that will be on the team seem pretty comfortable with each other which always makes a team perform better.
The team last season wasn’t as successful as they had hoped to be. When I talked to a few of the players they all seemed more confident in this team than the last one. Norm Bos said, “I think this team is going to be much better. If we try harder this year, I think we will accomplish more.” In spring sports, seniors tend to give up because they are done with school. Some of the team think this might be part of their problem. Even in soccer, seniors struggle with this. With the little amount of seniors they have, they think it will be much easier to get around that obstacle.
Practices and games will be at the DES field. The boys used to fundraise by collecting pop cans and working parking lot shifts. They need the money to fix their field. Over the past years they have worked to fix the draining system and the uneven outfield. The team would also like a better batting cage. The boys have many games scheduled for the year, so make sure you come support!
