Cocaine Bear Movie Review by Jessica Richardson-Smaller
One new movie that everyone has been talking about has been Cocaine Bear, directed by Elizabeth Banks. The description of this movie includes a giant black bear, who consumes a significant amount of cocaine, causing him to go on a drug-fueled rampage, killing people and terrorizing a forest. I decided it would be fun to go and watch the movie and write a review about it in case any of you were on the fence about going to watch it.
First of all, let's talk about the ratings online and what people have said. I had heard a lot of different thing; some people were saying it was bad and just dumb, but other people were saying since it was a comedy it was honestly very funny. For Rotten Tomatoes, it is put at 69%, which is not horrible, but is not great either. Going into it, I did not really know what to expect; I had a feeling some of it was going to be dumb, since it was obviously more of a fiction movie, but I honestly did not know what I was expecting.
Overall, I would give Cocaine Bear a 4/10. Yes, that is a pretty low rating. Without spoiling it, I want to just reveal some information about why it was not my favorite movie ever.
First of all, some of the acting in my eyes was not the best. Yes, I know it is a movie and people are acting and it is not going to be perfect. However, in some scenes, it just seemed too fake. I thought the mom of the daughter was not the best actress. The whole storyline of the movie, the bear getting into cocaine and then going around and killing people and everyone trying to stop it, was fine and made it a little better because new people kept coming on so it kept it interesting for the most part. If you are a person who does not like gore or blood, then this movie would not be for you. There were some parts that really made my stomach turn because of the blood and everything. When it came to the comedy part, I thought that it was pretty funny; I mean, some of the jokes were more ha ha dad jokes, but a lot of the time it was actually pretty funny. Although it was not my favorite movie, I think some of the characters and the lines with the jokes made it a lot better.
