Smashing Pumpkins Spirits on Fire Tour by Landon A. Opipari
The Smashing Pumpkins have a long history of releasing music and touring. Back in early October, and continues until November 19th.
This tour includes a unique set list for each concert, with new songs from their upcoming *Atum* included. The band has been creating music since 1989.
This tour serves as both a celebration of the history of the Pumpkins, and their future. Fittingly, they’re joined by Jane’s Addiction (an older group) and Poppy (a recent artist).
The tour takes place in North America, with dates still set for Vancouver, BC; Seattle, WA; Portland, OR San Francisco, CA; Anaheim, CA; Phoenix, AZ, and Los Angeles, CA.
All of these tours are accompanied by special merch. This merch includes special edition Zero hoodies—which are different from the ones on the online store– event cards for each date, special posters with unique artwork for every show, and special shirts.
The current line up consists of: Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, and Jeff Schroeder. In addition, they have the tour members Katie Cole and Jack Bates. The only member from the original lineup not present is D’arcy Wretzky. This is due to conflicts with the other band members.
According to Setlist.FM (a website collecting tour data), the average tour is around 2 hours, and tends to include Mellon Collie, Siamese Dream, and Atum songs the most.
This is their first big tour since 2019, as a result of COVID-19 canceling 2021 tour plans. Their last tour revolved around CYR and So Shiny, And Oh So Bright. These were the newest albums at the time. But by having this tour before they release Atum, they are able to build promotion for the album.
The *Smashing Pumpkins* have had a long history. Despite releasing multiple timeless and acclaimed albums, they did have inter-band conflict in the past, slowing down content for a few years. They continue to release music and grow their soundscape as the years go on. With many visual pieces to go along with it. The tour has been well received, and paints a vibrant future for the band.
