American Involvement in the Middle East by Brad Moorer
War in the Middle East isn’t exactly a new issue. For years the United States was involved in the Middle East attempting to wage a war on terror while keeping the peace among the nations there. The volatile region has seemingly gone hot again with Israel waging war on Hamas, a terror group violently advocating for the reinstatement of Palestinian rule in places such as the Gaza strip. Just recently Iran has directly attacked Israel, making war an unavoidable collision course. Inevitably these countries will look westwards to the European nations and eventually the U.S. The main question is what could this mean for U.S citizens?
As horrible and American-centric as that may sound, the fact of the matter is that the American military could end up being involved in another armed conflict in a foreign region. With other wars raging such as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia that the United States already funds, the direct involvement of American troops is unfortunately the next step. The Israeli prime minister has said that Israel will do “whatever is necessary” to defend the country. The immediate response of everybody worldwide is to panic, due to the threat of nuclear warfare. Unless the situation in the Middle East is cooled a little bit, that could spell disaster for the region.
U.S. military personnel could be deployed to the region at a moment's notice. The only thing stopping this response would be the diffusion of the tensions abroad. It would be wisest for the Americans to remain uninvolved however, for the most part, the United States plays global police and helps those who need helping either financially or in the worst case scenario, a military intervention. This is a good thing for the world in most cases, but with sides being taken many aren’t fond of the way this situation is trending. In some extremely unlikely scenario this could be the start to a third world war. At best, the region goes back to the unending violence it endures. Not a good situation to say the least, but it may be avoiding much larger consequences.
