The Golden Globes by Lexi Brooks
This year the 2024 Golden Globes landed on the 7th of January. There were so many nominations this year and lots of good films to be awarded for their talented casts, directors, music, etc. There were a total of 27 categories with 6 nominees per each category. This year had some excitement for stand-up comedy fans as this is the first year they added the Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. Let's jump into the winners of the 2024 Golden Globes!
The first category that is on the list is Best Director - Motion Picture. There were 6 lovely directors in this category, but the winner of the Golden Globe was Christopher Nolan as he was the director of Oppenheimer. The second category on the list is Best Motion Picture - Animated. Out of the 6 Animated movies on this list, Boy and Heron won this Golden Globe even after going up against some other great animated movies. Third on the list is Best Motion Picture - Drama. Again with the win is Oppenheimer! There may be a little bit of a pattern coming up… Next on the list is Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical. The winner of this category is Poor Things. Next is Best Motion Picture - Non-English Language and the winner is Anatomy of a Fall.

Winning best score is Ludwig Görasson with Oppenheimer and the best song is Billie Elish with What Was I Made For from Barbie. Next is Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television, Best Female Performance in Drama, Best Female Performance in Musical or Comedy, Best Female Supporting Role in Motion Picture, Best Female Supporting role on Television, Best Female Performance in TV series - Musical or Comedy and Best Female Performance in TV series - Drama. In order the winners are Ali Wong with BEEF, Lily Gladstone with Killer of the Flower Moon, Emma Stone with Poor Things, Da’Vine Joy Randolph with Holdover, Elizabeth Debicki with The Crown, Ayo Edebiri with The Bear, and last but not least Sarah Snook with Succession.
To put it more quickly with the men's performances here are the winners: Steven Yeug with BEEF, Cillian Murphy with Oppenheimer, Paul Giamatti with Holdovers, Robert Downey Jr with Oppenheimer, Matthew Macfayden with Succession, Jeremy White with The Bear, and Kieran Culkin with Succession. The Stand-Up Comedy award went to Ricky Gervais. All 3 television awards go to BEEF, The Bear, and Succession. Lastly, also a new award is the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement that went to the Barbie movie.
Overall this was a very entertaining Golden Globes with many great winners!
