Varsity Bowling by Noah Conklin
Varsity bowling season has begun, and their first match was last Thursday at South Haven. Also, this week, they played Coloma on Tuesday and Martin on Wednesday. Currently, boys varsity bowling is 0-3.
Against South Haven, the boys lost by a large margin, but Liam Wester PRed at 131 in a singles game. Ryan Phillips also got a high score of 197. When the team played against Coloma on Tuesday, they lost but could’ve won because most of the scores were under 100, and everyone on the team can score over that amount. Finally, on Thursday, Martin was a tough matchup because of how many people they had, but even though the boys varsity played well, they lost. Noah Conklin had a PR of 160 in the first singles game and Ryan Phillips hit 177 in the second singles game.
Liam Wester was askedhow he thought the and the start of the season had been going. He replied with, “It's been a rocky start, but I’m sure we’ll pull it together eventually with more practice. All we can do is keep moving forward.”
Next, he was asked if the other schools were really much better than we were. He said, “Yes, they are. Our most recent close game against Coloma could have been much better, but they played better than us, and that’s just what happens.” This match was a big issue for the team and other teams a much better than boys varsity. But with more practice the team will get better and maybe become one of the better teams.
Finally, he was asked how he felt moving forward, now that he has experience. Liam replied with, “I feel good about our potential, I think we have a chance, but we really just need to lock in.” This is a good statement to describe the team so far. The team’s next match is Monday the 11th at Gobles. Come support them!
