Exchange Students in Soccer! by Annie Molenhouse
As the second week of soccer practice concludes, the team is happy to welcome four exchange students to the team. The team is welcoming: Meera AZ from Palestine, Marylou Lepron from France, Daniella Nkurunziza from Germany, and Ellen Martinsson from Sweden.
Each girl has found what position they will be playing and are bringing a lot to the table for the team. Ellen Martinsson played midfield and defense in Sweden, so she already knows a lot about the game. She played a big role in the first varsity scrimmage on Monday. As for the other girls, they are all learning very fast, becoming more aggressive and great assets to the team. Marylou Lepron will be playing an offense position for the team. Meera Az will either be playing midfield or defense, and Daniella Nkurunziza will play goalie.
Playing sports is a great way for exchange students to make new friends and try out new things. The girls joining the team has been a great experience, and makes bonding so much easier because of the amount of time that is spent together every day after school.
When asked about soccer and how it is going, Meera AZ responded: “I like it, but there is no one specific thing about it that I like more than the rest; really I like it all equally. I get to move a lot, I really like the people on the team, and I’m very excited for my first game.”
From fit checks to conditioning, there has been a lot of bonding that has happened and more to come. The team is very lucky to have these girls. Good luck to the soccer team!
